Zebras in camp ahead of the challenge

This communique serves to inform media and public that senior national team zebras is in camp ahead of the 2017 COSAFA senior challenge , the team reported to camp Tuesday 13 June. The Zebras have been drawn against Zambia in the quarterfinals of the COSAFA senior challenge which will take place in the north west province (Rustenburg and Moruleng).

Botswana will play Zambia July 1st 2017 at the Royal Bafokeng sports palace, with kick off set for 1500hrs. Zebras are expected to travel to South Africa on the 28th of June three (3) days ahead of the quarterfinal clash and will base in Rustenburg for the rest of the tournament. The senior team will return home latest on the 9thth July and earliest on the 6th July 2017.

Interim senior national team coach team coach Oris B. Radipotsane will announce his final 23 man squad to the COSAFA tournament on Monday 19th June 2017. Tickets for the tournament are on sale at computicket (Shoprite) outlets in South Africa Purchasing tickets for any match day allows fans to what all games at the venues, which right up until the final stages includes two fixtures per day.

The tickets will cost R20 through the entire competition, including for the final. The competition gets under way on June 25, with the deciding match to crown this year’s champions on July 7.

The Mares Display Heart In Tri Nations Challenge

Botswana’s senior women’s national football team recently concluded their campaign in the prestigious Three Nations Challenge, hosted by South Africa from 28 May to 3 June at the Lucas Moripe Stadium. The series saw spirited competition between Botswana, South Africa, and Zambia, as teams continued their preparations for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers.

 

Despite narrowly missing out on the top prize, Botswana showed immense character and growth throughout the tournament. The Mares kicked off their campaign with a thrilling encounter against the African champions South Africa, narrowly going down 3-2 in a tightly contested match. The team bounced back with a determined performance against Zambia, securing a 1-1 draw and demonstrating resilience and tactical discipline.

South Africa 3–2 Botswana

Botswana 1–1 Zambia

South Africa 2–0 Zambia

 

South Africa’s Banyana Banyana were ultimately crowned champions of the series, winning both of their matches to take the top spot. The tournament offered valuable game time and experience for all participating nations, and Botswana’s technical team, led by Head Coach Alex Malete, will take key insights from these fixtures as they refine the squad for the crucial WAFCON fianals.
