GABORONE: In a morning announcement, the Botswana Football Association (BFA) unveiled an ambitious fundraising initiative to secure funds for the senior women’s national team, “The Mares,” in preparation for the upcoming Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON 2024).
The BFA has officially kicked off its fundraising campaign, titled “The Mares 2.0 Campaign,” with the objective of generating a minimum of P10 million. During a press conference held today, Masego Busumane, the Head of Marketing at BFA, outlined the plan, emphasizing that the funds would be utilized for both local and international training camps. The team is scheduled to undergo training in Turkey in February, Saudi Arabia in April, and the United States of America in early May, culminating in preparation for the WAFCON event in Morocco.
Busumane elaborated on the diverse fundraising packages available, including a gala dinner, a football festival, a golf day, and the option for private donations. “As BFA, we prioritize the thorough preparation of our national teams. We call upon the entire nation to contribute as The Mares embark on their training camp,” remarked Mr. Mfolo E. Mfolo, the BFA Chief Executive Officer.
Highlighting the significance of adequate preparation, Mfolo stressed that only well-prepared teams stand a chance of clinching victory at tournaments. With funding support, the goal is to provide The Mares with three substantial international training camps.
