The Zebras failed to qualify for the 2023 African Nations Championship (CHAN) after losing 2-1 on aggregate to Madagascar on Friday (2nd September 2022) in their final CHAN 2022 Southern Zone Qualifiers second leg match at Kianja Barea Mahamasina Stadium, Madagascar.

Carlos gave the hosts a further lead on 22 minutes increasing their advantage of away goal rule as they managed to score away from home in their first leg clash at Obed Itani Chilume Stadium, Francistown.

However, Botswana bounced back from their slow start to take charge in the second half as Lebogang Ditseleโ€™s goal in the 65th minute levelled the score to be 1-1.

At the post-match press conference Coach Mogomotsi Mpote expressed his delight at the massive performance of his players considering that most of them are under 23 years of age.

โ€œI am so happy with the teams impressive performance, you have to remember that this is primarily an under 23 team with few a senior players and what they have done here is amazing,โ€ Mpote said.
