Francistown Regional Football Association (FRAFA) and Jacaranda Women’s Football League Francistown this past weekend (13 August 2022) held an awards ceremony at Francistown Civic Centre hall.
 
The awards were held on Saturday afternoon to honor all 12 Jacaranda Women’s Football League 2021/2022 season teams namely; Francistown United, Heritage Academy, Tutume Soccer Angels, Flying Girls Makungulupeswa, Strong Boys and Ladies, Shashemooke United, Coloured Stars, Diamond Girls, Tutume Young Fighters, Mandunyane FC, Ladies Focus FC, and Reteng Banyana FC.
 
Francistown United has been crowned the 2021/2022 season champions of the Jacaranda Women’s Football League and they walked away with a Trophy, Gold medals and P5, 500.00 cash prize. Heritage Academy is the runners-Up and they took home silver medals and P5,000.00 Cash prize while in third place is Tutume Soccer Angels who pocketed P4,000.00 cash prize and Bronze medals.
Flying Girls Makungulupeswa wrapped the league in position 4 and walked away with P3, 500.00 in Cash.
 
 
All teams finished from position 5 to position 8 walked away with a sum of P2, 000.00 cash prize each. The last bottom 4 teams paid the dirt with the sum of P1, 000.00 each.
 
Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Lobito Ncube also a National Executive Committee (NEC) member, called for the business community and public at large to chip in women’s football as that will attract more Viewership which normally determines the magnitude of sponsorship and endorsement deals.

The Mares Display Heart In Tri Nations Challenge

Botswana’s senior women’s national football team recently concluded their campaign in the prestigious Three Nations Challenge, hosted by South Africa from 28 May to 3 June at the Lucas Moripe Stadium. The series saw spirited competition between Botswana, South Africa, and Zambia, as teams continued their preparations for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers.

 

Despite narrowly missing out on the top prize, Botswana showed immense character and growth throughout the tournament. The Mares kicked off their campaign with a thrilling encounter against the African champions South Africa, narrowly going down 3-2 in a tightly contested match. The team bounced back with a determined performance against Zambia, securing a 1-1 draw and demonstrating resilience and tactical discipline.

South Africa 3–2 Botswana

Botswana 1–1 Zambia

South Africa 2–0 Zambia

 

South Africa’s Banyana Banyana were ultimately crowned champions of the series, winning both of their matches to take the top spot. The tournament offered valuable game time and experience for all participating nations, and Botswana’s technical team, led by Head Coach Alex Malete, will take key insights from these fixtures as they refine the squad for the crucial WAFCON fianals.
