PRESS RELEASE

To All Media Houses

On behalf of the O3 Beverages family and management, we wish to express our hearty congratulations to both The Mares in Morocco and the young Zebras Squad in KwaZulu-Natal for their incredible runs in their respective tournaments. They have indeed flown the Botswana flag high and made our nation proud.

O3 Beverages wishes to convey its humble apologies to our expectant supporters whom we had pledged to send to Morocco to cheer The Mares on in the WAFCON. Unfortunately, we were confronted by overwhelming logistical challenges, including air tickets and visas, making it impossible to fulfil our pledge.

O3 is currently engaging with the BFA to reward The Mares following their historic achievement of reaching the Quarterfinals of the most prestigious tournament in Africa. The alternative will be communicated in due course.

We would like to take this moment to also commend the BFA for their active efforts in promoting football in Botswana and uplifting women in the Beautiful Game. We have noted the positivity from worldwide broadcasters about the BFA and we are privileged to be aligned with their organization.

Re a Leboga Bagaetsho.

The Mares Display Heart In Tri Nations Challenge

Botswanaโ€™s senior womenโ€™s national football team recently concluded their campaign in the prestigious Three Nations Challenge, hosted by South Africa from 28 May to 3 June at the Lucas Moripe Stadium. The series saw spirited competition between Botswana, South Africa, and Zambia, as teams continued their preparations for the upcoming Womenโ€™s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers.

Despite narrowly missing out on the top prize, Botswana showed immense character and growth throughout the tournament. The Mares kicked off their campaign with a thrilling encounter against the African champions South Africa, narrowly going down 3-2 in a tightly contested match. The team bounced back with a determined performance against Zambia, securing a 1-1 draw and demonstrating resilience and tactical discipline.

Final Tournament Results:

South Africa 3โ€“2 Botswana

Botswana 1โ€“1 Zambia

South Africa 2โ€“0 Zambia

South Africaโ€™s Banyana Banyana were ultimately crowned champions of the series, winning both of their matches to take the top spot. The tournament offered valuable game time and experience for all participating nations, and Botswanaโ€™s technical team, led by Head Coach Alex Malete, will take key insights from these fixtures as they refine the squad for the crucial WAFCON fianals.
