BOTETI REGIONAL WOMEN FOOTBALL HELD SPONSORSHIP LAUNCH AND AWARDS CEREMONY

On Saturday 09 July 2022, Boteti Regional football association held awards ceremony and sponsorship launch for their renewed Debswana Sponsorship. The guest of honor on the event also the Head of women football and a National Executive Committee member Ms. Lobito Patience Ncube thanked Debswana for their unwavering support to the world of sports for the renewed P600 000.00 sponsorship. Ms. Ncube also urged the business community to help in the grassroots and player development especially in the women football. She further added that they recognize and are very grateful to other sponsors who are always on their side like DTCB and Lucara.

Giving her vote of thanks, the national women’s football committee chairperson Ms. Itsholeng Disang emphasized her appreciation to Boteti Regional Football Association for a job well done, she also shared with the sponsor their dream of making Football a livelihood for the girl child and thanked them for taking them one step to their dream. Ms. Disang also thanked the teams for their participation and their fighting spirit and for battling to emerge victorious and also the media for disseminating information and educating the public on women football.

In attendance, among others there was the BFA CEO Mr. Mfolo Mfolo, a representative from Debswana and the regional committee members.

The Mares Display Heart In Tri Nations Challenge

Botswana’s senior women’s national football team recently concluded their campaign in the prestigious Three Nations Challenge, hosted by South Africa from 28 May to 3 June at the Lucas Moripe Stadium. The series saw spirited competition between Botswana, South Africa, and Zambia, as teams continued their preparations for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers.

 

Despite narrowly missing out on the top prize, Botswana showed immense character and growth throughout the tournament. The Mares kicked off their campaign with a thrilling encounter against the African champions South Africa, narrowly going down 3-2 in a tightly contested match. The team bounced back with a determined performance against Zambia, securing a 1-1 draw and demonstrating resilience and tactical discipline.

South Africa 3–2 Botswana

Botswana 1–1 Zambia

South Africa 2–0 Zambia

 

South Africa’s Banyana Banyana were ultimately crowned champions of the series, winning both of their matches to take the top spot. The tournament offered valuable game time and experience for all participating nations, and Botswana’s technical team, led by Head Coach Alex Malete, will take key insights from these fixtures as they refine the squad for the crucial WAFCON fianals.
