The Botswana Football Association (BFA) Chief Executive Officer Mr. Mfolo Mfolo and BFA management yesterday addressed and updated the media on the preparations leading to the African Women’s Cup of Nations scheduled for Morocco in July, 2022.
Mr. Mfolo outlined the programme of action geared at assisting The Mares before they fly off to Morocco.
The CEO told the media that the team has been in camp which ended last week Friday for a break. They will resume a much more extensive camp which is categorized into local and international.
Mr. Mfolo said the local camp will take place away from Gaborone most probably in Orapa or Jwaneng.
“We think the ladies need to be away from town because we need their concentration levels up, to focus.”, said Mr. Mfolo
The other camp would be held in Pretoria where they would use the High Performance Centre with two or three friendly matches scheduled.
While the envisaged Slovekia training camp may not take place due to instability in Eastern Europe, Mr Mfolo was optimistic that they would get camp training not far from Morocco.
“We are looking at the area around Morocco, most likely Tunisia. Most of the qualified teams will be camping around that area. Some will be in Turkey and the surrounds.” he added.
Mr. Mfolo however told the media that the required budget for the Women’s team preparations is P7,2 million and the association is appealing to both corporates and parastatals to come on board to help women in their historic achievement.
“We need to be united. We therefor kindly request anybody, to assist anyhow especially the corporates and parastatals because this is all for Botswana at the end of the day, ” Mfolo said.
Mr Mfolo also used the opportunity to thank O3, the BFA new water partners and encouraged others to do the same. O3 also pledged to take a number of supporters to Morocco for the July 2022 spectacular.
