Botswana Football Association (BFA) is the supreme authority on matters of football in Botswana therefore control all aspects of the game by taking necessary steps to ensure compliance with its Constitution, rules, regulations, standing orders of Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), Confederation of African Football (CAF), Council of Southern African Football Associations (COSAFA) and the laws of the game as promulgated by FIFA and IFAB.
BFA was founded in 1966 (then it was known as the Botswana National Football Association (BNFA)) and the only affiliate of Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) when it was registered in 1973. It first affiliated to FIFA in 1978. In addition to being a BNSC affiliate, BFA is also an affiliate of CAF and COSAFA.
