BFA technical department undergoes COSAFA Futsal Drilling Course

GABORONE, Botswana – The Botswana Football Association (BFA) Technical Department this week joined their counterparts from the COSAFA region to undergo a virtual Futsal Coaching Course Series, aimed at harnessing their skills and proficiency about the five-a-side football game. The course which started on Wednesday (yesterday) is expected to run every Wednesday of the week until mid-August, for 90 minutes each session.

The BFA team is led by BFA Acting Technical Director, Dr. Carolin Braun including Tshepo Mphukuthi, Thatayaone Uncl Sonny, Batshegi Philemon Modibedi and Jaloni George amongst the participants.

“This is yet another great cooperation with COSAFA. Botswana is strengthening its relationship with COSAFA and we are very happy about the continuous support we get from them. Mind you, this is the 3rd virtual edition. Initially COSAFA did a course with LaLiga to educate our instructors, which was followed by another course for some of our national coaches. This is their third edition in helping us to further develop FUTSAL in the country. In all the courses, all TDs from different regions are invited including a specific number of coaches from their federations,” said Dr Braun this week.

The online course is being led by Brazilian coaches and instructors who are experts in Futsal.

Additionally, the participants will learn from other countries such as Angola, who is also participating and are billed to play at the Futsal World Cup Lithuania 2021, where 24 teams will compete for the trophy from 12 September to 3 October 2021.

Dr. Braun said the content for the first workshops include General structures, principles, and concepts.

“Notably, to teach Futsal in Brazil you need to have a degree from university in physical education. Only with having a degree, you can get a coaching licence,” added Dr.Braun.

Futsal is a football game played on a hard court, smaller than a football pitch, and mainly indoors. It has similarities to five-a-side football. Futsal is played between two teams of five players each, one of whom is the goalkeeper, and unlimited substitutions are permitted.
