We have received the news with shock of the death of Mr. Ishmael Bhamjee who passed on today (Friday) midday. Mr. Bhamjee will be laid to rest later today.

He served as the BFA president from 1991 to 1995 and 1997 to 2000. Mr. Bhamjee was also COSAFA President, CAF Executive member, as well as FIFA Executive member.

During his days, the late Bhamjee also helped the South African FA to get their act back together after the apartheid boycott. He is also a former FIFA referee.

Outside football, in the 90s, the Botswana Badminton Association (BBA) was formed under the chairmanship of Ishmael Bhamjee. BBA is affiliated to BNSC, Africa Badminton  Federation and the International Badminton Federation.

The Botswana Football Association (BFA) wishes to express its condolences to the bereaved Bhamjee family and the entire football family of Botswana.

The death of Mr. Ishmael Bhamjee is a great loss to African Football. Please, accept once again our heartfelt condolences.
