The Botswana Football Association, together with the governing body FIFA will be holding a five-day intermediate refereeing course for women.

The course, which is expected to end on Friday 07 October 2022 forms part of the Association’s priorities pertaining to women’s football and development.

Speaking at the official opening which was held at Lekidi Football Centre, the Chairperson of the National Women Football Committee Miss Itsholeng Disang urged the participants to use this opportunity wisely as it is a step in the right direction towards increasing and building capacity in local women football.

According to Itsholeng, todayโ€™s event is a huge step in women football development as the training of women referees is a positive sign of inclusiveness and empowerment for women.

โ€œWomen football is still at its infancy stage but has managed to make a positive impact in both local and continental competitions. The BFAโ€™s effort to train match officials specific to women was borne from the fact that the women game is evolving and doing well. I encourage you to do your best and always embrace fairness in all matches you are assigned to officiate. You must conduct ethically all the time to allow regions and BFA to run smooth competitions,โ€ she said.

Following completion of this course, the 32 women in attendance will be promoted and certified to officiate at the national first league and premiere league respectfully.
