BFA President to attend COSAFA AGM

GABORONE, Botswana, February 19, 2021/ — The Botswana Football Association (BFA) President, Maclean Letshwiti will this weekend attend the Council of Southern African Football Associations (COSAFA) Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Johannesburg, South Africa, which the FIFA President, Gianni Infantino is also expected to join.

The COSAFA AGM gives the organisation an opportunity to reflect on its past journey as well as to plot the way forward for the next 12 months.

Speaking moments before he left, BFA President, Maclean Letshwiti who also happens to be the COSAFA Chairman of the Legal and Statutes said this year’s General Assembly is quite interesting because they will be amending the Constitution.

“We will be presenting an updated Constitution for COSAFA. The other one is that COSAFA has come up with a Presidential candidate for CAF, so we are going to work out a strategy on how we as an English-speaking bloc can cooperate, so that we give priority to Dr. Patrice Motsepe with his impeccable acumen and record. It will be interesting to see how the rest of COSAFA feel. As you know, we have already officially endorsed him, so right now it is just to work on the strategy of getting him through to the CAF Presidency seat” said Letshwiti.

Letshwiti also expressed confidence on Dr. Motsepe becoming the CAF President especially that he has done a lot of work selling himself by visiting every concerned President around the COSAFA bloc.

Letshwiti said another interesting factor is that this year’s COSAFA AGM will have the FIFA President, Gianni Infantino in attendance.

“It’s an honour to have the FIFA President attending our AGM. The meeting will also have private discussions regarding the COSAFA region as well as concerns, including support to member associations, and lastly his plans for football,” Letshwiti concluded.
